The Eastern Beats Music Society is a group of creative artists and working professionals from various disciplines brought together by the love for music, sports and the Arts. Formed with the basic objective of using the latent and healing power of music and sports to heal lives in strife-torn areas and bring in development and progress to rural, underdeveloped areas and in the lives of the marginalised, the society has been promoting good musical forms and local talents in the field of Music, Art and Sports as well.

The Eastern Beats Music Society was founded by Aiyushman Dutta, Peter Alex Todd and Mizi Kro in 2009. It was formally registered with the Registrar of Societies, Assam in June 15, 2010. Over the year, it has encompassed many prominent personalities from the art and cultural world, including Indraneel Choudhury, Amlandeep Das, Shantanu Thakur, Subhankar Hazarika, Rakhee Choudhury, Dilip Tamuly, Pranab Bora, Guru Rewben Mashangva, Moa Subong and others. The all-encompassing reach and outlook of the society can be gauged from the fact that it has reached out to as many as three generations of artistes and professions in various nooks and crannies of the country.

The healing power of music and the Arts is something which the society wants to exploit. We have been behind many radical initiatives like the Karbi Anglong Beats Contest 2009 to protest the October 30 serial blasts in Guwahati, Guwahati Rock community concert, October Jam – the first public jamming session for musicians in Guwahati, various social development activities, countless gigs in pubs and other venues, and many more. Our members have also been associated with organizing Freedom Jam, which is held in the streets of Guwahati on August 15 every year to protest the bandh culture in Northeast India, and Assam in particular.

The Eastern Beats Music Society is chief organizer of the premier Guwahati International Music Festival (GIM), a brainchild of Aiyushman Dutta. Two editions of the festival were held in 2011 and 2012. The Guwahati International Music Festival is a landmark event in the independent music industry of India and was supported by a host of departments of Government of India and the State governments, besides witnessing participating by leading international conglomerates like Suzuki Music International (India), Thomas Music Corporation (USA), Musicians Institute (USA), Vh1, Rolling Stone, Furtados Music Chain, Earth Sync (Chennai). The festival has so far witnessed participation by around 500 musicians from different parts of the world, including five foreign countries.

Research work and World Music is another thrust area of the Eastern Beats Music Society. While most of us would like to believe that our rich traditions are almost on the verge of extinction, the fact remains that it has already become extinct in many places. Headed by renowned tribal folk musicologists and research activists, the society is actively looking into the documentation, preservation and promotion of our folk traditions, besides exploring new areas like world music.

Besides jamming sessions, gigs, quizzes and musical concerts, the society also has a publication wing to look into the documentation of the regional music scene, besides chronicling musical, art and literary events and trends of the region.

From 2013 onwards, the Society has been running a free school of music for underprivileged children in Jugashree Nagar, Kahilipara. Every year, nine children from underprivileged backgrounds are taught in the Eastern Beats School of Music located at Jugashree Nagar.

From 2013 onwards, the Society has also started using football as means to develop mental growth and concentration power of students. It has formed a unit ‘Rainbow Football Coaching Centre’ where underprivileged children are taught the basics of football free of cost by Eastern Beats Music society Preisdent Peter Todd Baruah (Alex), who is a noted journalist and also a certified coach of the All India Football Federation. The Rainbow Football Coaching Centre, has participated in a number of football tournanents at the Under 14, Under 16 and Under-19 level.

Regular exchange with foreign coaches at the bests of EBMS president Peter Todd Baruah (Alex) had led to the club winning a number of prestigious football titles.

More importantly, through the engagement of sports and music, Eastern Beats Music Society have been able to provide a goal to the underprivileged children to dream big and aim for the best in society and totally ignore bad practices like gambling, drinking, and substance abuse.
